Artemis II and You!

NASA’s Artemis II mission will bring a lot of firsts to the world–it will be the first mission to send a woman, a person of color, and a Canadian to lunar space.

Your challenge is to create a short video to share how the development of the Artemis II mission is impacting you and your community, wherever you may be.

SUMMARY
NASA’s Artemis II mission will bring a lot of firsts to the world–it will be the first mission to send a woman, a person of color, and a Canadian to lunar space. Your challenge is to create a short video to share how the development of the Artemis II mission is impacting you and your community, wherever you may be.

BACKGROUND

NASA’s Artemis missions will land the first woman and first person of color on the Moon, using innovative technologies to explore more of the lunar surface than ever before. We will collaborate with commercial and international partners to establish the first long-term presence on the Moon. Then, NASA will use what it learns on and around the Moon to take the next giant leap: sending the first astronauts to Mars.

We’re going back to the Moon for scientific discovery, economic benefits, and to inspire a new generation of explorers: the Artemis Generation. The Artemis Generation represents people across the world who will band together to explore deep space for the benefit of all.

On the first crewed Artemis mission, Artemis II, astronauts aboard NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion spacecraft will venture around the Moon. Their mission will be to confirm all of the spacecraft’s systems operate as designed with crew aboard in the actual environment of deep space. The Artemis II flight test will pave the way to land the first woman on the Moon on Artemis III.

NASA and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) announced the four astronauts who will venture around the Moon on Artemis II. The crew assignments are as follows: Commander Reid Wiseman, Pilot Victor Glover, Mission Specialist 1 Christina Hammock Koch, and Mission Specialist 2 Jeremy Hansen. They will work as a team to execute an ambitious set of demonstrations during the flight test.

OBJECTIVE

Your challenge is to make a brief video (three minutes or less) that communicates how the development of the Artemis II mission is impacting you and your community. Get creative! Think about how your video can be factual, scientific, and educational, but remember not to advocate political positions or political or social calls to action. Your work should be original. You are free to use imagery and video from NASA so long as you comply with NASA’s Media Usage Guidelines (See https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/guidelines/index.html). If your submission requires the use of non-NASA materials such as music, images, or video (your "Solution Materials"), you are responsible for ensuring that your Solution Materials are freely and publicly available without restriction, or that you have permission to use them under, for example, a Creative Commons license. Remember, crediting materials is not the same as having permission to copy and reuse them!

POTENTIAL CONSIDERATIONS

You may (but are not required to) consider the following when creating your video:

  • How can you make your video accessible to everyone?
  • How can you present information about Artemis II in a new way?
  • How might you incorporate input from someone who experienced Apollo missions or other human spaceflight programs?
  • Do you have access to any primary resources (examples: periodicals, memorabilia, photos, or video) that can help you learn about the impacts of Apollo missions or other human spaceflight programs?
  • Consider what inspired you to take on this challenge. Do you see potential for NASA’s work to solve a problem or improve something in your community? Do you want to participate in Artemis missions in the future?
  • You and everyone you know are a part of the Artemis Generation. What does this mean to you and your community? How do you view the Artemis Generation and what hopes do you have for its future?
  • There may be multiple impacts that affect you and/or your community. Consider focusing on one or two that are the most important to you.
